Indra Jatra and Kumari Jatra Festival

The festival of Indra Jatra continues for eight days with much rejoicing, singing, dancing and feasting. People from all over Nepal, mostly those who live within the Kathmandu Valley, gather at the Hanuman Dhoka in Kathmandu. The first day of the festival is viewed by a large number of people. On that day, a long wooden pole is erected in front of the ancient Royal Palace at Hanuman Dhoka, in order to propitiate Lord Indra, the”god of rain”. Classical dancers also assemble at the spot, wearing different kinds of traditional masks and costumes and dancing around the courtyard of Hanuman Dhoka to celebrate Indra’s visit.

Day 01: Arrival and transfer to hotel.

Itinerary Detailed

DAY 01: ARRIVAL KATHMANDU-(Altitude: 1,350m)            Dinner only
Meet and greet upon arrival at the International airport and transfer to hotel. Traditional tika ceremony upon arrival, check into the hotel, tour briefing followed by welcome drink. Late evening enjoy dinner in Nepalese restaurant with local dance, overnight stay at Hotel in Kathmamndu.

DAY 02: KATHMANDU SIGHTSEEING              B/L/D        
After breakfast leave for UNESCO world Heritage sightseeing tour to Pashupatinath temple- the oldest and most sacred Hindu temple of the world situated on the bank of Holy Bagmati River where all the dead bodies of the valley is cremated. In this area you will see dead body being cremated, old temples, many Hindu priests etc. We further proceed to Boudhanath Stupa-one of the biggest stupa of the world, the surrounding area also known as little Tibet because this area is covered by Tibetan refugees and is one of the biggest Tibetan refugee camps of the valley. Lunch at Restaurant in Bouddhanath area. Afternoon observe Indra Jatra festival and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Return to hotel and overnight.

DAY 03: KATHMANDU SIGHTSEEING              B/L/D
After breakfast leave for UNESCO World heritage sightseeing tour covering Swayambhunath Stupa-almost 2000 years old Stupa situated on a hillock offer breathtaking view of whole Kathmandu valley with eastern Himalayan ranges. Lunch at  near Patan city area. After lunch, proceed for Patan Durbar Square- the city of art and architecture where you can see Durbar square, stone temple, Buddhist monasteries etc. On the way visit  Lakhe Nach/ Pulu kisi procession only if  timing and venue is at convenient site. Return to hotel and overnight.

DAY 04: PANAUTI/ NAMOBUDDHA              B/L/D
After breakfast leave for Panauti one of the ancient Newari village. Hiking to Namobudhha  will be organized as per the interest of the clients or drive to Namobudda via Dhulikhel . Visit various jatra related festival program if  timing and venue is at convenient site.  Evening enjoy the view of Sunset and eastern Himalayan ranges. Overnight  stay at Dhulikhel. 

DAY 05: HIKE OR DRIVE TO NAGARKOT              B/L/D                    
Wake up early in the morning to see the sunrise on the Himalayan ranges. Walk around the village to witness day to day life of Newari community. Breakfast and proceed Hiking to Nagarkot with packed lunch/ Drive to Nagarkot. On the way witness the various villages , day to day life of various communities etc. Finally arrive Nagarkot and enjoy the view of Himalayas and valleys. Dinner and overnight  stay at hotel at Nagarkot.

DAY 06: UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SIGHTSEEING    B/L/D              
Wake up early in the morning to witness view of Himalayan ranges including Mt Everest ( 8,848 meter) at sun rise. After breakfast, proceed for UNESCO World Heritage site  tour  covering the ancient Hindu temple Changu Narayan which  is located on a high hilltop that is also known as Changu or Dolagiri. The temple is surrounded by forest with champak tree and a small village, known as Changu Village and Bhaktapur Durbar Square which was founded in 889 AD. is 13 km east of Kathmandu. The old palace square of Bhaktapur contains famous "Fifty-five windows palace". It was the royal palace of Malla kings then. The golden gate in this square is the unique master piece of the Nawari art work in the whole of NEPAL. This old square is like an open museum of Hindu temples. The other famous sites are the ancient royal bath, the courtyard of Taleju shrine; the museum of art and history, the pottery square, the majestic Nyatapola temple, the famous Peacock window and the Dattatraya temple .You can feel the mythical air of timelessness in Bhaktapur. Lunch will be served at Café Nyatapola or similar at  Bhaktapur. After lunch observe Jatra related festival in ancient city  Bhaktapur. Return to hotel and overnight. 

DAY 07: KIRTIPUR/ CHOVAR AND DAKSHINKALI  VISIT              B/L/D                    
Breakfast proceed for local sightseeing covering ancient historical city- Kirtipur, Chovar George and Dakshinkali temple. Return to hotel, after lunch visit around Chariot Possession site/ Jatra festival related program. Overnight stay  at hotel. 

DAY 08: VISIT ANCIENT VILLAGE  BUNGMATI & KHOKHNA             B/L/D        
Breakfast and proceed to Bugmati and Khokhna village. Witness the ancients houses, day to day life of Newari village life, Newari culture etc. On return visit Indra Jatra site and take part in the  Jatra festival program. Return to hotel and overnight.

DAY 09: VISIT AT THAMEL AND WITNESS FINAL DAY OF INDRA JATRA FESTIVAL         B/L/D        
Breakfast and proceed to witness Indra Jatra/ Kumari Jatra Festival program. If time permit visit to Tourist Market Thamel will be organized. Return to hotel and overnight.

DAY 10: FINAL DEPARTURE TRANSFER         B    .
Breakfast and timely transfer to International airport for onward flight.
